Senior Pictures : Avoid The Rush

Senior pictures. It's the photo session girls dream of, and boys drag their feet to! "But, you know, they all have a great time once they get to the studio," promises Jenny Jacobson of Sunset Photography. "When I tell boys they can bring any props they want to a photo shoot, they start to get excited, too!"

Senior pictures. What more defines the conclusion of a teenager's high school career? Believe me, by the time caps and gowns arrive everyone is ready to graduate, but senior pictures are the milestone that celebrates and captures the completion of the K-12 cycle! It is an opportunity to trade pictures one last time with kids you may not see again until your 10-year class reunion.

Senior pictures. "This is the favorite part of my job," says Jenny. "I just love to take pictures of seniors because they're so excited about graduating. It's finally their turn in the studio, and it's so much fun to see the props and clothes they bring to the photo shoot. Boys will bring their cars, letter jackets, hunting dogs, athletic equipment. We do a lot of their pictures outside because they feel more comfortable in that setting. I want every senior session to be unique, which is why I encourage them to bring all their favorite things with them."

Senior pictures. "This is a great time for moms and daughters. They bring friends, clothes galore, props that I didn't even dream of, and are ready to have a good time. I want their personalities to shine through! It's a chance for them to show who they are. I had one girl who was so involved in everything, we just dumped it all out and sat her in the middle! It was a terrific picture because it reflected her busy life."

Senior pictures. "This is a pivotal time for kids. It's the fun part before they start making college decisions, worrying about moving into dormitories and saying good-bye to buddies. When I was a kid, senior pictures all looked alike. Now seniors have a chance to showcase their personalities. The positive energy that flows during a shoot is so energizing. This is totally their time, a chance to tell their story."

I love it when they act goofy and bring all those props that define who they are. They have a blast and so do I. It's such an awesome time! There's nothing like senior pictures."
